Emotions Running High (Charloft 6/11 Drabble Prompt)
We've all seen the meme: Pick an emotional state and I'll write you a drabble featuring my character and yours. Now here's your chance to pick a situation and and write that drabble with your character flying solo.

Flint Creek Ranch, June 12th, 2009

Her hands deftly diced potatoes and beat eggs. To help her extremely pregnant sister-in-law, Cait was fixing breakfast for her family and the men who called Flint Creek's bunkhouse home. The stable hands proved to have nearly púca-sized appetites.

Collecting dirty dishes, she found Laine already at the sink. "Shouldn't you be resting?"

Laine rolled her eyes. "Don't you start fussin'. I'm just fii-" Her words cut off in a gasp as she bent over the counter.

Enough of that. "To bed with you. I'll handle this." When she saw Laine stumble on the stairs, Cait touched her medallion. Tadhg...

Cait's worry sent Tadhg upstairs. He knocked on Laine's bedroom door, only to hear her emerge from the bathroom instead. "Laine, I--"

The sight of her patterns stopped him short. The baby's energies, once intertwined with Laine's, had gathered in on themselves. Touching her belly, he could feel the agony caused by the little one's insistence on OUT!

"Tadhg, what the hell are you doin'?!"

He looked up to meet exasperated blue eyes. "I was checking … Laine, you're definitely in labor."

"No shit, genius." She turned to display the soaked back of her dress. "My water just broke!"

Confused!Rory (with a side of Jealous):

Rory left early to ride fences that day, needing time alone to think after his painful conversation with Pippa. The trace of envy he felt for Anraí's marriage and impending fatherhood also drove him out and away, if only to keep his moodiness to himself.

Had he made the right decision, staying here instead of going to Venice? His family loyalty insisted that he be here for his nephew's or niece's birth, but Pippa had sounded so devastated...

It's time!!!

Rory wheeled Tumbling Dice and rode back. He was here now, but he would make it up to Pippa later.

When he and Anraí got the word, Ruairí watched his oldest's face drain pale enough to show every freckle. "Be calm, a bhuachaill," he soothed. "You've seen births before, both human and horse."

Anraí swallowed. "But this is different."

"Even so. You won't be doing the hard work." Ruairí squeezed his son's shoulder. "Remember what I told you when Tadhg was born?"

"Never argue with a woman in labor." Anraí managed a smile. "About anything."

"Exactly." Ruairí chuckled as they headed for the house. "And by all the gods, don't tell her you understand what she's going through. You don't."

Anraí had many occasions to remember his Da's advice during his wife's long labor. The most memorable happened after a savage contraction when Laine grabbed a fistful of his shirt.

"You listen up, Anraí Sean. The only thing of mine you're ever puttin' your doodah in from here on out is the meat grinder down in the kitchen. And I cannot wait to turn that sonovabitch on."

He looked up to see Da's sympathetic smile, Rory and Tadhg's winces, Cait's smirk and the midwife's grin. Then he looked down into his love's murderous stare.

"Of course, a chroí," he sighed.

Such cute, pain in the butt drabbles, really. Every one of them would have gone on for twice as long if I'd let them. *mun!glare*

Details that show the core of what's moving them.

I'm not much into the lore/cannon of this, but
The sight of her patterns stopped him short. The baby's energies, once intertwined with Laine's, had gathered in on themselves. Touching her belly, he could feel the agony caused by the little one's insistence on OUT!
has great tension and plot building magic.

(Loved the doodah-quote too :D)

Thank you, hon. And don't worry, Tadhg's abilities don't have all that much to do with the book's canon. They're more my own interpretation. ;)
